Synopsis:
[version 1] A secret sisterhood comes to the rescue of a mother-daughter assassin team.

[version 2] A young woman (Gillan) and her estranged mother (Headey), who are both assassins, must join forces on the run to take down a male-dominated crime syndicate they used to work for.

[longer version] Sam (Karen Gillan) was only 12 years old when her mother Scarlet (Lena Headey), an elite assassin, was forced to abandon her. Sam was raised by The Firm, the ruthless crime syndicate her mother worked for. Now, 15 years later, Sam has followed in her mother's footsteps and grown into a fierce hit-woman. She uses her "talents" to clean up The Firm's most dangerous messes. She's as efficient as she is loyal.

But when a high-risk job goes wrong, Sam must choose between serving The Firm and protecting the life of an innocent 8-year-old girl - Emily (Chloe Coleman). With a target on her back, Sam has only one chance to survive: Reunite with her mother and her lethal associates: The Librarians (Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh, and Carla Gugino). These three generations of women must now learn to trust each other, stand up to The Firm and their army of henchmen, and raise hell against those who could take everything from them.

Deadline: Michelle Yeoh Joins 'Gunpowder Milkshake' - Cannes

Studiocanal (UK) and The Picture Company (US) today announce that Michelle has joined the cast of action thriller Gunpowder Milkshake in a key role.

The film is said to be a female-driven high-concept assassin story that has a rich mythology and spans multiple generations. The plot centers on a mother-daughter assassin duo played by Karen Gillan and Lena Headey.

Michelle will play part of a sisterhood of secret arms dealers who come together to help Gillan's character.

Written and Directed by Navot Papushado, Gunpowder Milkshake will shoot at the Babelsberg Film Studio, Germany with principal photography commencing June 3.

The crew members include DP Michael Seresin, best known for several collaborations with Alan Parker in addition to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, Costume Designer Louise Frogley (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Production Designer David Scheunemann (Deadpool 2).

StudioCanal will distribute the movie in the U.K., Australia, Germany and France, while selling rights to other territories. UTA is co-repping the US rights.
