"Kevin Buxbaum has worked as our Production Controller for a number of years. During that time, although always being very proud of what we were doing, I never saw Kevin get outwardly excited about anything... that was until he heard that Michelle Yeoh was going to be in the Avatar sequels. On Michelle's last day working, I saw Kevin ready to leave the lot for the day. I diverted him to set where Michelle greeted him with open arms. At the end of 10-minute plus chat she graciously posed for a picture with Kevin."

(05/23/19) Producer Jon Landau has revealed that the Avatar live-action filming is officially underway in Wellington, New Zealand. Shooting of the live-action parts is expected to last about six months in New Zealand.

The second film, Avatar: The Way of Water, is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Fox on December 17, 2021. Avatar: The Seed Bearer will follow on December 22, 2023. Then Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa on December 19, 2025 and December 17, 2027.

The original Avatar, released in 2009, stands as the highest grossing film of all time, with $2.7 billion globally. Avatar 2, the first of four planned sequels, is slated for release on December 18, 2020. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang and Sigourney Weaver are among those returning for the sequel. New comers include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Oona Chaplin.

The preliminary shooting of Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 started simultaneously in the fall of 2017 in California. In November 2018, producer and director James Cameron announced that principal motion and facial performance capture parts involving main cast members were ompleted.
